According to Reuters and Yonhap News Agency, on June 9th, the Korean Medical Association held a meeting, with nearly 74% of members agreeing to hold a collective strike and planning a large-scale rally. Lin Xianze, President of the Medical Association, said at the meeting that the government's plan will destroy South Korea's healthcare system and have no effect on the long-term problems of reduced numbers of doctors in important disciplines and insufficient salaries.

It is reported that the South Korean government announced in early February that in response to the aging population and shortage of doctors in the basic medical field, university medical schools will expand their enrollment of 2000 new students for the 2025 academic year, from the current 3058 to 5058, and ultimately increase to 10000 by 2035. On May 30th, the South Korean Ministry of Education announced that medical schools will admit 4610 students next year, slightly lower than the target of 5000 students set by President Yoon Seok yeol. However, this number is still 1.5 times that of medical students in the 2024 academic year, which has once again sparked dissatisfaction in the medical community.

The South Korean government has previously called on any organization related to doctors not to take any actions that endanger public safety, stating that this will damage the reputation of doctors and reduce people's trust in the medical industry. South Korean Prime Minister Han Deju said that any collective action by doctors is illegal and once again called on both sides to engage in dialogue to resolve the deadlock.
