01Malaysia freezes Yuan Huaishao's parliamentary qualifications for 6 months

Kuala Lumpur News: Recently, the lower house of the Malaysian parliament passed a resolution to freeze the qualification of Yuan Huaishao, the leader of the Indigenous Unity Party Youth League, as a member of parliament for six months. The resolution is based on Yuan Huaishao's participation in the 2021 and 2022 reports of the Malaysian Human Rights Commission on July 1, stating that he received anonymous letters exposing the mastermind behind the sale of some shares in Malaysia's airports. In June of this year, Malaysia's state-owned airport sold 59% of its shares to global infrastructure partners, which sparked heated discussions in Malaysia at the time. Yuan Huaishao named a staff member of the Housing Provident Fund Bureau to participate in the acquisition and accused the staff member of maliciously treating subordinates.

Malaysia's Minister of Law and Institutional Reform, Asalina, stated that the anonymous letter mentioned by Yuan Huaishao cannot even verify the identity of the complainant and the authenticity of the incident, indicating that it has damaged the reputation of others, and therefore a lawsuit has been filed against him. However, some people also expressed dissatisfaction with this, believing that the parliament hastily passed the relevant resolution without giving Yuan Huaishao a chance to explain, deliberately covering up certain facts. The defendant still had the opportunity to defend himself in court, and as a member of parliament, Yuan Huaishao only brought issues of concern to the people into parliament and should not be treated in such a way.
