01Indonesia extends the term of the Chairman of the Commission on the Eradication of Corruption from 4 years to 5 years
The Jakarta Constitutional Court in Indonesia has extended the term of office of the Chairman of the Commission for the Eradication of Corruption (KPK) from 4 years to 5 years. After comparing the term of office of the KPK leadership with that of 12 non ministerial institutions such as the Election Commission, the Constitutional Court found that the term of office of the heads of the 12 non ministerial institutions was five years, and the four-year term of office of the KPK leadership was unfair.
KPK was established in 2002 and has a supervisory role over other anti-corruption agencies. It is a comprehensive institution in Indonesia to combat corruption. The Vice President of Indonesia stated that the government accepts the decision of the Constitutional Court and hopes that extending the term of office will enable KPK to more effectively address corruption issues in the future. The Indonesian House of Representatives questioned the decision of the Constitutional Court, believing that changing its power should be exercised by the House of Representatives and the government as legislators, rather than the Constitutional Court. The controversy surrounding the change in term has also occurred in other departments and parties in Indonesia.

01At least 148 people died due to Cyclone Mocha in Rakhine State, Myanmar
In Myanmar, people are increasingly concerned that the materials needed to recover from Cyclone Mocha will come too slowly. This storm triggered flash floods and power outages, collapsed mobile phone signal towers, and at least 148 people died in Rakhine State, Myanmar. Myanmar's official media say that over 186000 buildings were damaged in the hurricane, and almost no houses survived.
According to media reports, due to the recent monsoon causing prolonged rainfall, there is a shortage of materials for rebuilding houses in the affected areas, and there is even no waterproof tarpaulin to build shelters. Villagers urgently need food, drinking water, and medicine. Although the Myanmar Navy and Air Force have started transporting rice and other aid supplies, they have not yet reached remote areas.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs stated last week that it is still in negotiations with officials in the national capital, Naypyidaw, to approve a plan to provide humanitarian assistance to the storm affected areas of both countries.
