Recently,Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited Kendal, Central Java Province to unveil the construction of an electric vehicle battery negative electrode material factory in cooperation between China's Betray New Materials Group and Singapore's DBS Investment Company. The birth of this factory not only signifies a significant breakthrough for Indonesia in the electric vehicle industry chain, but also lays a solid foundation for it to become a major producer of negative electrode materials for electric vehicles worldwide.

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime and Investment Affairs Coordination, the first phase of the factory's investment is as high as 478 million US dollars, aiming to produce 80000 tons of negative electrode materials annually. Although the specific production start date has not been announced to the public, this news is already exciting enough. Indonesia has abundant mineral resources, especially nickel, and the abundant supply of this key resource provides unique conditions for Indonesia to build a domestic electric vehicle industry. The strategic position of nickel as an important raw material for battery cathodes is self-evident.Joko WidodoAt the opening ceremony, it was emphasized that "since 2020, we have implemented a policy to ban the export of raw nickel, which is an important step in building a large-scale electric vehicle ecosystem. Today, we are one step closer to this goal

As a leading enterprise in the field of negative electrode materials, Betray New Materials Group's layout in Indonesia is particularly crucial. The group plans to utilize its factory in Morowali, Indonesia to process graphite products to fully meet the needs of the new negative electrode material factory. Even more exciting is that Betray has announced the launch of the second phase of construction work in the fourth quarter of this year, with an expected production capacity to double to 160000 tons per year. Group Chairman He Xueqin stated that in order to achieve this goal, an additional $299 million will be invested to ensure that Indonesia can become one of the world's leading producers of negative electrode materials in the future, second only to China, and truly become the "second largest country in the world".

Chairman He Xueqin's bold words not only demonstrate Betterlie's firm confidence in the Indonesian market, but also reveal Indonesia's enormous potential in the electric vehicle industry chain. He further pointed out, "The successful implementation of this project will effectively fill the gap in the battery industry in Indonesia and even the entire ASEAN region, injecting strong impetus into regional economic development

Indonesia's proactive measures have also attracted widespread attention from battery and electric vehicle manufacturers worldwide. Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solutions are among the top performers. These two giants have launched their first battery cell production project in Indonesia and integrated with Hyundai's factory to manufacture electric vehicles using locally produced batteries in Indonesia. This series of cooperation and investment undoubtedly injects more possibilities into the future development of Indonesia's electric vehicle industry.
