Recently, Indonesian President Joko Widodo held an event in Jakarta, IndonesiaSustainable Development ForumA strong appeal has been made to developed countries around the world, hoping that they can increase their investment in Indonesia's energy transition and climate solutions.

President Joko emphasized that Indonesia has remarkable potential for renewable energy, with a total capacity of up to 3600 gigawatts, a figure that is rare globally. In addition, Indonesia also has vast mangrove forests with a total area of 3.3 million hectares. These mangrove forests have a carbon absorption capacity 12 times that of tropical rainforests, providing a natural barrier to address global climate change.

To achieve the goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2060, Indonesia is making every effort to promote energy transformation and the development of a green economy. President Joko Widodo stated that Indonesia is willing to cooperate with any country in the world to jointly develop green projects, especially investing in the development of green industrial zones, in order to promote the green upgrading of the economic structure.

In order to achieve this goal, the New Energy, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Group under the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is actively seeking external investment. According to the director of the department, Eniya, Indonesia plans to increase its renewable energy generation capacity to 8.2 gigawatts by 2025, which requires up to $14.2 billion in funding support. Eniya stated that this investment will enable Indonesia to increase the proportion of renewable energy in its energy structure from the current 13% to 21% within next year, laying a solid foundation for the country's green transformation.

However, despite Indonesia's enormous green potential and clear development goals, it still faces many challenges in the actual implementation process. Eniya pointed out that if developed countries dare not invest, are unwilling to share new research and development achievements, and do not provide affordable financing plans for emerging countries, then Indonesia's green economy potential will not be able to fully exert its due influence.

In this context, President Joko Widodo's call is particularly urgent and important. He emphasized that solving the global climate problem requires joint efforts and cooperation from the international community, and Indonesia, as a country with abundant renewable energy resources and a firm determination to transition to green, deserves more international support and investment.

It is worth noting that Indonesia previously received a financing commitment of $20 billion in the "Just Energy Transition Partnership" (JETP) agreement led by the Group of Seven (G7), but so far, the actual amount of financing received is still relatively small. In response, Indonesia stated that it will continue to actively seek support and assistance from the international community to ensure the achievement of its green transformation and climate goals.
