Recently,Seoul Convention and Exhibition Center, South Korea(COEX)Successfully held“2024Annual Alliance Power ExerciseAPEX 2024)International cyber defense exercises.

as report goes,In order to enhance the security defense capabilities of various countries in cyberspace and strengthen cooperation and mutual assistance among allies, South Korea has decided to hold this international cyber defense exercise(Allied Power Exercise 2024)This exercise is hosted by the South Korean National Intelligence Agency and has received support from South KoreacountryCooperation and support from institutions such as the Institute of Home Security, the Cyber Operations Command of the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Science, Technology, Information and Communications, and the National Security Strategy Research Institute.

The overall goal of the exercise is to simulate cyber crises, test the capabilities of various countries in network attack and defense, information sharing, legal response, etc., cultivate practical response capabilities to potential cyber threats, and promote exchanges and cooperation among countries in the field of cybersecuritywithResponding to the global cybersecurity crisis while focusing on mutual assistance mechanisms among allies.

The scale of this exercise is grand, with participants from the United States, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and otherstwenty-fourA country's agreementseventyNetwork security professionals participated in the exercise. These professionals come from various countries' cybersecurity agencies, military forces, technology companies, etc., possessing rich experience and skills in cybersecurity. In addition, the NATO Collaborative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence(CCDCOE)I also participated in the setup and organization of the exercise, providing support for scenario development, opening exercises, and exercise systems.

The exercise is divided into two parts: real-time on-site technical training and online policy training.Real time on-site technical training mainly simulated network attack and defense scenarios, and participants from various countries tested their respective network security technologies and strategies by simulating network attacks and defenses.Online policy training focuses on evaluating the legal and media response procedures of various countries during online crises, in order to strengthen their legal and media communication capabilities in responding to online crises.During the exercise, participants from various countries actively participated, fully demonstrating their professional skills and spirit of cooperation in the field of cybersecurity. The exercise also set up multiple simulation scenarios to comprehensively test the cybersecurity defense capabilities of various countries.

During the exercise, the scenario of the power grid system being subjected to cyber attacks was simulated, and the techniques and strategies of participants from various countries in dealing with such crises were tested. By simulating the attack and defense exercises of the power grid system, the ability of various countries to ensure the security of critical infrastructure has been enhanced. The exercise also simulated scenarios where network services were subjected to cyber attacks, such as hacking and data breaches. The participating personnel tested their defense capabilities and emergency response mechanisms in network service security by simulating attack and defense.

In the scenario of digital forensics and event response, the exercise simulated how participants from various countries conduct digital forensics, analyze attack sources, and track attackers after a cybersecurity incident occurs. Through the simulation of this scenario, the ability and efficiency of various countries in responding to cybersecurity incidents have been enhanced.

In addition to the specific scenarios mentioned above, the exercise may also simulate other potential network threat scenarios, such as ransomware attacks and distributed denial of service attacks(DDoSAttack, fishing attack, etc. The simulation of these scenarios helps participants from various countries to have a more comprehensive understanding of the diversity and complexity of cyber threats, and enhances their ability to respond to these threats.

This exercise has achieved complete success, not only strengthening cooperation and exchanges among countries in the field of cybersecurity, but also enhancing their practical response capabilities to potential cyber threats. Through the exercise, participants from various countries gained a deep understanding of the technology and strategies of network attack and defense, enhancing their awareness and skills in network security. At the same time, the exercise also promoted exchanges and cooperation among countries in terms of cybersecurity laws and regulations, information sharing mechanisms, etc., laying a solid foundation for building a safer and more stable cyberspace.

In addition, this exercise is also of great significance for South Korea. As the host country of the exercise, South Korea not only demonstrated its strength and level in the field of cybersecurity, but also took this opportunity to strengthen its connections and cooperation with international organizations such as NATO, enhancing its influence and status in the international cybersecurity field.
