Recently,MalaysiaThe Penang state government has announced its goal to achieve a 25% share of renewable energy in energy consumption by 2030. The achievement of this goal will not only consolidate Penang's leading position in Malaysia's sustainable energy sector, but also set an example for global climate change response and sustainable development.
At the opening ceremony of the Penang International Green Conference and Exhibition, Chief Minister of Penang State, Cao Guanyou, elaborated on this plan in detail. He stated that the Penang government is actively responding to the central government's net energy metering policy and grid electricity pricing plan, promoting the widespread adoption of renewable energy such as solar energy in households, businesses, and industrial sectors. Minister Cao Guanyou emphasized that this is not only a policy task, but also a firm commitment of Penang to environmental protection and sustainable development.
The Penang government will strive to increase the penetration rate and utilization efficiency of renewable energy. Starting from next year, all eligible new public buildings will be required to increase the proportion of renewable energy to at least 5% of total energy, and existing buildings will be encouraged to undergo similar renovations. This measure aims to promote the recognition and use of renewable energy throughout society through the demonstration effect in the construction industry.
In addition to the construction sector, the Penang government will also focus on the application of renewable energy in other key areas such as transportation and industry. Penang is striving to build a comprehensive green energy system through measures such as promoting electric vehicles, constructing charging stations, and optimizing the industrial energy structure. Minister Cao Guanyou stated that the Penang government will actively collaborate with the central government, private sector, and international partners to promote the research and application of renewable energy technologies.
It is worth noting that while promoting the development of renewable energy, the Penang government also places great emphasis on environmental protection and ecological restoration. At present, Penang's resource recovery rate has exceeded 50%, far exceeding the central government's goal of achieving a national resource recovery rate of 40% by 2025. This achievement not only reflects the Penang government's emphasis on environmental protection, but also provides strong support for achieving renewable energy goals.
Minister Cao Guanyou stated that the Penang government will continue to deepen its alignment with the Paris Agreement and Malaysia's national energy transition roadmap. He emphasized that Penang's goal is not only to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also to promote comprehensive economic and social transformation and upgrading by transforming its energy structure. He called on the whole society to work together and contribute to the realization of Penang's green dream.
