Recently, the Vietnamese government announced an ambitious infrastructure construction plan - investing 67 billion US dollars (approximately 485 billion yuan) to build a north-south high-speed railway line that is over 1500 kilometers long. The high-speed railway will extend southward from Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, to Ho Chi Minh City, the commercial center in the south, becoming a fast track connecting two important cities in Vietnam.
It is reported that this high-speed railway line starts from Yuhui Station in Hanoi in the north and ends at Houtian Station in Ho Chi Minh City in the south, crossing 20 provinces and cities in Vietnam, with a designed speed of up to 350 kilometers per hour. This is not only a highway connecting the north and south, but also a "major breakthrough" in Vietnam's infrastructure construction. Chen Guofang, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment of Vietnam, stated at the press conference that the implementation of this project will significantly enhance Vietnam's transportation capacity and is expected to drive an annual GDP growth of 0.97 percentage points. He emphasized that having a world-class high-speed railway is the common aspiration of the Vietnamese people and the unwavering determination of the Vietnamese government.
The construction of the North South high-speed railway will bring profound economic impacts. Martin, a consultant at Dezan Shira&Associates, an international consulting firm, pointed out that the opening of high-speed rail will greatly promote the efficiency of domestic material circulation in Vietnam. Key components can be transported to the manufacturing center more quickly, and finished products can be delivered to customers faster, thereby shortening delivery time and enhancing the competitiveness of the enterprise. Martin believes that the North South high-speed railway will become an important part of Vietnam's consolidation of its position in the global supply chain, making Vietnam more competitive in the rapidly developing Southeast Asian region.
For the vast majority of Vietnamese people, the completion of the North South high-speed railway will greatly improve their travel conditions. At present, the travel time from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City is as long as 30 hours, but after the high-speed rail is opened, this time will be shortened to only about 5 hours. This means that the Vietnamese people will be able to travel more conveniently between the north and south, whether for business or tourism. College student Fan Dengguang expressed in an interview that he is very much looking forward to the completion of the high-speed rail and hopes to one day fulfill his wish of traveling between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on the same day.
According to the plan announced by the Vietnamese government, the North South high-speed railway project is expected to officially start construction in 2027 and strive to be fully completed by 2035. The implementation of this project will require a significant amount of funding and technical support, but the Vietnamese government has made it clear that it will spare no effort to promote the construction of the project and ensure that the high-speed rail can be completed on time and with high quality.
