Recently, the Malaysian government received notification from the United States that it will impose sanctions on several domestic companies, which has sparked widespread attention in Malaysia. The government quickly responded by urging domestic manufacturing companies to closely monitor the final flow of their exported goods to avoid being implicated by the unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States on Russia.
It is understood that the background of the US sanctions this time is a series of unilateral sanctions measures imposed on Russia that have not been approved by the United Nations. Although the Malaysian government does not agree with the United States' approach, it has chosen to respond cautiously in order to safeguard its national interests. Foreign Minister Mohamad Hassan stated in the lower house of parliament that Malaysia does not want to bear any consequences for non-compliance with relevant regulations. Therefore, the government specifically reminds manufacturing companies to pay attention to the flow of exported goods and ensure that they will not be affected by indirect US sanctions against Russia.
Mohamad Hassan revealed that he has received notification from the United States that sanctions will be imposed on several Malaysian companies. According to preliminary understanding, three of the six companies on the list are trading companies that may be sued for violating the provisions of the 1967 Customs Law regarding false declaration of goods and origin information. This news undoubtedly caused a certain shock to Malaysia's trade community, and related companies have begun to self examine and adjust their export strategies.
In response to this sanction incident, the Malaysian government has stated that it will take proactive measures to address it. On the one hand, the government will strengthen communication with the United States and strive to gain more understanding and support on the issue of sanctions; On the other hand, the government will also increase guidance and assistance to domestic manufacturing enterprises, guiding them to reasonably avoid risks and ensure the smooth progress of export trade.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Hassan also emphasized that Malaysia, as a partner country of the BRICS group, will not change its role in any intergovernmental alliance worldwide. He pointed out that Malaysia's accession to the BRICS group is to further expand its role and influence in the economic field, rather than to create opposition with other international organizations or countries. He stated that Malaysia will continue to actively participate in various activities of the BRICS group, promoting economic cooperation and development among BRICS countries.
In addition, the Malaysian government has promptly communicated and explained the concerns and doubts of the domestic public regarding the sanctions incident. The government stated that it will make every effort to protect the legitimate rights and interests of domestic enterprises, while also calling on the general public to remain calm and rational, and not to panic or worry excessively.
