Recently, Apple has proposed a major investment plan to lift the ban on the sale of its new iPhone 16 in Indonesia. According to Indonesian Investment Minister Rosan, Apple has raised its investment commitment and is willing to invest up to $1 billion in Indonesia as a "first phase" investment fee in exchange for the lifting of the ban.

This $1 billion investment commitment can be considered a qualitative leap compared to Apple's initial investment plan. It is reported that Apple initially only promised to invest $10 million in Indonesia to build a factory in Bandung that produces mobile phone parts and accessories. The proposed $1 billion investment plan undoubtedly increases the investment amount by a full 10 times.

The Indonesian government announced in October this year that it would ban the sale of iPhone 16 within its borders, mainly due to Apple's failure to meet the Indonesian government's requirements for localized production of mobile phone components. The Indonesian government stipulates that at least 40% of the components of mobile phone products sold locally must be produced in Indonesia. However, Apple did not meet this standard, so its new phone iPhone 16 is prohibited from being sold in the Indonesian market.

Besides Apple, Google's Pixel phones have also been blocked from the Indonesian market due to failing to meet similar investment regulations. Although Google promised to invest $170 million in Indonesia in 2023, it has not yet been fully implemented and still lacks approximately $10 million in investment.

When discussing Apple's investment plan, Rosan expressed his hope that the investment package proposed by Apple to Indonesia would be more favorable than Vietnam, with a larger investment amount. He pointed out that Apple's investment in Vietnam has reached about 15 billion US dollars and has built multiple production facilities. Therefore, he hopes that Apple's investment in Indonesia can also reach a considerable level.

Indonesian Minister of Industry Agus expressed support for Apple's investment plan in Indonesia. He believes that promoting Apple to set up factories locally to produce smartphones will help improve Indonesia's industrial production level and create more job opportunities. At the same time, this will also attract more mobile phone manufacturers to invest and establish factories in Indonesia, further promoting the development of the Indonesian economy.
