Syrian opposition forms transitional government, appoints Bashir as leader
On December 9th, the opposition armed group that overthrew Syrian President Assad entrusted Mohammad Bashir, the head of the "Syrian Salvation Government," to form a transitional government. This decision was made after a meeting between Bashir, the leader of the Sham Liberation Organization (HTS), Ahmed Shara, and the current Syrian Prime Minister Jalali.
On the day when the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel came into effect, the Syrian anti-government forces suddenly launched an attack, officially kicking off another round of Syrian civil war. This civil war presents many unprecedented characteristics, with the rebels launching rapid attacks, involving numerous forces, and the situation being extremely dangerous.
On December 17th, the United Nations Security Council issued a joint statement. The statement calls for promoting an inclusive political process led and owned by the Syrian people, based on the key principles of Resolution 2254 of 2015.
