Since taking office in 2023, Prabowo has rapidly promoted the process of Indonesia joining the BRICS countries. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that this measure aims to strengthen cooperation with developing countries and jointly promote the establishment of a more equitable global order. They stated that through the BRICS platform, Indonesia will have the opportunity to share its development experience with other member countries, promote trade and investment, and achieve faster economic growth.

However, Indonesia's decision to join the BRICS countries has also raised some diplomatic concerns and challenges. Analysts point out that as Indonesia's cooperation with BRICS countries deepens, it may exacerbate tensions with the United States. Especially considering that President elect Trump is about to take office again, he has threatened to impose high tariffs on BRICS members and criticized BRICS discussions on de dollarization policies. Therefore, how to fully utilize the BRICS platform to promote Indonesia's national interests while maintaining relations with the United States will become an important challenge for the Prabowo government.
