Vietnam to comprehensively review TikTok or consider banning it

At present, the department has formulated a relevant review plan, drawn up a list of review teams, and notified relevant departments to send people to participate in the review. They said that they would review TikTok's projects in Vietnam jointly with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Culture, Sports tourism, the Ministry of Public Security, and the State Administration of Taxation, focusing on content promotion and distribution strategies, taxation, e-commerce, advertising and other issues.

Local media in VietnamRecently, Vietnam Express conducted a survey on TikTok users, and they interviewed 6000 TikTok users, of which over 81% had been exposed to harmful content on TikTok. The well-known professor of Hanoi National University pointed out that TikTok is full of a large number of harmful content, such as "suffocation challenge", "death angel challenge", etc. These content will lead to myopia, obesity, Sleep disorder and inattention of teenagers, and even affect their outlook on life and values, which is not conducive to their physical and mental health.

The Deputy Minister of Communications and Media of Vietnam revealed that ifTikTok may consider banning TikTok if it does not follow instructions to remove harmful content. Some industry insiders also hold a skeptical attitude towards this, believing that it is a means for Vietnam to support local video e-commerce platforms and is not conducive to legitimate competition in the industry.
