The traditional folk festivals in Laos are mostly closely related to Buddhist festivals or agricultural farming, with water splashing festival, Gaosheng festival, welcoming water festival, water delivery festival, and Taluan festival in chronological order throughout the year.

Water Splashing Festival, also known asThe "Songgan Festival" or "May Festival" is the Buddhist New Year and is therefore the most solemn festival among the Lao people. 'Song Gan' means seeking rain. Laotians worship Buddha, bathe Buddha, splash water, tie threads, give alms, pile sand, release animals, etc. in temples, and at the same time, splash water and bless each other at home and on the streets, allowing pure water to wash away past diseases and disasters. They pray for abundant rain and abundant crops in the coming year, welcoming a beautiful new year.

Gaosheng Festival is a traditional folk festival in Laos, also known as Rocket Festival, Crazy Festival, June Festival, etc. Gaosheng is a rootA gunpowder bamboo tube 3 to 9 meters long and with a bowl mouth thickness, coated with various colors of paint or colored paper, is equivalent to a clay rocket. On the morning of the day when Gao Sheng was released, people put on colorful costumes, dressed up as gods, demons, warriors, scholars, fishermen, and other strange images, and carried Gao Sheng to the launch square. At this joyful mass gathering, people pray to the Rain God by launching a high altitude ascent. The crowd was like a sea and a tide, beating gongs and drums, singing and dancing. During the promotion period, there are also activities such as bathing monks, fasting monks, and new monks shaving.

The Water Welcoming Festival and the Water Sending Festival have many names. The Water Welcoming Festival is also known as the Entering La Festival and the Song Xia Festival, while the Water Sending Festival is also known as the Opening La Festival and the Closing Door Festival of the Dai people in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan. The arrival of the rainy season has caused the Mekong River to rapidly rise. After the rainy season, the water level of the Mekong River drops, leaving a layer of soft and fertile silt on the riverbank, providing excellent conditions for the people of the basin to grow food. Therefore, it is known by the Laotians asThe "Holy River" holds a welcoming festival when the river begins to rise and a water delivery festival when the river recedes. During the two festivals, activities such as lighting lanterns, drum racing, lantern boat setting off, and dragon boat racing will be held.

The Ta Luan Festival is named after being held in Ta Luan. It is the largest and most grand traditional religious festival in Vientiane City, with an annual Buddhist calendarIt will be held in December. The Taluan Festival lasts for about half a month. During the festival, monks from all over the country flock to Taluan to worship. Buddhists also bring various foods, incense candles, flowers, money, etc. to Taluan Temple to worship the Buddha, listen to the monks chanting scriptures and pray for good luck. People also need to hold an exhibition on the Taluan Square, which includes not only exhibits from Laos, but also a wide variety of daily necessities, agricultural products, handicrafts, etc. from China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and other countries. In addition, you can also see various performances such as literature and sports.

If you have the opportunity, be sure to come to Laos to experience these festivals that are related to Buddhism.
