Vietnam News

The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) announced that it will pilot passenger biometric authentication (facial recognition) at the boarding counter of Yuntun International Airport in northern Quang Ninh Province.

The authorities have asked the airport to take measures to prevent congestion and deal with the situation that occurred during the pilot period. The airport is also required to coordinate with relevant agencies and enterprises to evaluate the effectiveness of the pilot application in terms of aviation safety risks and passenger convenience, and submit a monthly report to the Civil Aviation Administration.

The aviation safety center of Vietjet and the Neipai International Airport, headquartered in Hanoi, will work closely with Yundun International Airport and relevant partners.

Previously, the Civil Aviation Administration of China has proposed to the Ministry of Transport to extend the pilot period of national airport biometric authentication. It is reported that the pilot application of facial recognition technology in the northern city of Haiphong Jibei International Airport has not clearly demonstrated its advantages and disadvantages.

This high-tech approach is designed to help ensure social order and security, reduce check-in time, and improve accuracy. Facial recognition technology can also improve the prevention and detection of passengers using fake documents, and detect wanted criminals who are prohibited from flying or crossing the border.
