The 18th meeting of the Joint Implementation Committee of the China Laos Border System Treaty was held in Luang Prabang Province, Laos from May 8th to 11th, 2023. The meeting was co chaired by the Lao side on behalf of the relevant leaders of the Lao National Border Committee, and the Chinese side on behalf of the relevant leaders of the Border and Ocean Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This meeting reviewed the implementation of the Border Management System Agreement and the Border Ports and Their Management System Agreement between the governments of China and Laos, as well as the implementation of the 17th meeting of the Joint Implementation Committee of the China Laos Border System Treaty. Specifically, both sides agree to strengthen cooperation in the field of border work, especially to restore cooperation between border management officials of both sides, establish a hotline to facilitate the exchange of information, coordination, and use of joint border patrol mechanisms by the authorities.
