On January 12th, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, revealed at a regular press conference that from January 10th to 11th, with the mediation and promotion of China, the Burmese military held peace talks with representatives of three Burmese civilian armed groups, including Kokang, Deang, and Rukai, in Kunming, Yunnan, China, and reached a formal ceasefire agreement.

Mao Ning said that both sides agreed to an immediate ceasefire and end to the war, military personnel withdrew from contact, and related disputes and demands were resolved through peaceful negotiations. Both parties promise not to harm the safety of Chinese border residents and project personnel in Myanmar. Both sides also negotiated on ceasefire arrangements and other matters.

Mao Ning stated that maintaining the momentum of ceasefire and peace talks in northern Myanmar is in line with the interests of all parties in Myanmar and also helps to maintain peace and stability in the China Myanmar border area. China hopes that all relevant parties in Myanmar will seriously implement the ceasefire agreement that has been reached, exercise maximum restraint on each other, continue to resolve issues through dialogue and consultation, and jointly promote progress in the peace process in northern Myanmar.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides have agreed to immediately cease fire, cease hostilities, and lift military personnel contact. The remaining disputes and demands will be resolved through peaceful negotiations, and negotiations on ceasefire arrangements and other matters will be conducted within this framework.
