Google invests $2 billion to build data centers and cloud regions in Malaysia

Recently, the Malaysian government announced that US technology giant Google plans to invest up to$2 billion to build its first data center and Google Cloud region in the local area, while promoting in-depth development in the field of artificial intelligence. This heavyweight investment not only marks the further deepening of Google's strategic layout in Southeast Asia, but also injects strong momentum into Malaysia's economic development and digital transformation.

It is reported that Google's investment plan will take root in the Aimina Business Park in Shaannam, Selangor, Malaysia. Minister of Investment Zafra emphasized in a statement that this measure is expected to create more than26500 job opportunities greatly promote the development of related industries. In addition, the manufacturing and service industries are also expected to leverage Google's artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies to enhance their position in the global value chain, contributing an additional output value of up to RM15 billion and RM40 million to the Malaysian economy.

Google parent companyAlphabet and Google's President and Chief Investment Officer, Paulat, stated that this is Google's largest investment plan in Malaysia in 13 years of operation, and it is also the first time that a data center and Google Cloud region have been established in Malaysia. This decision is based on the long-term cooperation between Google and the Malaysian government to jointly promote cloud priority policies. The two sides will work together to promote the improvement of network security standards, ensuring data security and user privacy.

Malaysian Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Anwar gave high praise to this investment. He posted on social media stating that Google's investment not only demonstrates Malaysia's strength in attracting domestic and foreign investment, but also highlights the country's clear plans in the economic and digital fields. Anwar emphasized that strategic cooperation with Google will help Malaysia achieve development goals in multiple fields such as education, healthcare, and agriculture, and promote overall progress of the country.
