In Jakarta, the issue of nuclear energy cooperation between Russia and Indonesia is gradually heating up, and the governments and business communities of the two countries are actively exploring how to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results in the field of nuclear energy. According to the latest news, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Torchinov revealed that Russia and Indonesia are expected to reach an important nuclear energy cooperation agreement, but before that, Indonesia needs to clarify its specific cooperation needs and types.

The proposal of this cooperation intention originated from the meeting between Indonesian President elect Prabowo and Russian President Putin on July 31. Prabowo clearly expressed Indonesia's strong interest in Russia's small modular reactor technology and floating nuclear power plants during the meeting. He revealed that Indonesia has conducted preliminary discussions with the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, with a focus on the possibility of cooperation between small modular reactors and main reactors.

The Indonesian government's desire for nuclear power generation is not unfounded. With the rapid development of the economy and continuous population growth, Indonesia's demand for electricity is increasing day by day. However, traditional fossil fuel power generation methods not only have high costs, but also cause serious pollution to the environment. Therefore, the Indonesian government has been actively seeking clean and efficient energy solutions, and nuclear power generation is undoubtedly one of the important options.

As a nuclear power technology powerhouse, Russia has rich experience in nuclear power generation and advanced technological reserves. According to the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation, Russia currently has 38 nuclear power units, including a floating nuclear power plant in Pewek, Far East. More than 19% of Russia's electricity comes from nuclear power plants. These advanced nuclear technologies provide valuable reference and cooperation opportunities for Indonesia.

howeverTo achieve the vision of nuclear power generation, Indonesia still needs to overcome a series of challenges.Firstly, Indonesia needs to establish a comprehensive nuclear energy safety regulatory system to ensure the safety and reliability of nuclear power generation.Secondly, Indonesia also needs to cultivate a group of high-quality nuclear energy professionals to provide strong talent support for the implementation of nuclear power generation projects. Finally, Indonesia needs to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with nuclear energy technology powerhouses such as Russia, and jointly promote innovation and development of nuclear energy technology.

For Russia, nuclear energy cooperation with Indonesia not only helps expand its international market for nuclear energy technology, but also strengthens economic and trade ties and strategic mutual trust between the two countries. Therefore, the Russian side has responded positively to Indonesia's demand for nuclear energy cooperation and expressed willingness to provide comprehensive nuclear energy technology support and cooperation services for Indonesia.
