Vietnam is located in the Mainland Southeast Asia, with a long and narrow territory,Coastline lengthMore than 3260 kilometersIt has natural harbor and freight advantages. According to the survey, the Southeast region is the region with the largest economic share in Vietnam, and it is also the most active region for import, export, and logistics in Vietnam. Especially, basic freight such as seaports have played an important role in Vietnam's logistics system.

The southeastern region of Vietnam has approximately14800 logistics service providers, accounting for nearly 50% of the total number of logistics enterprises in Vietnam. Among them, Ho Chi Minh City has over 11000 logistics enterprises, Pingyang has nearly 1700 logistics enterprises, and Tongnai has over 1200 logistics enterprises. The region handles 45% of the country's total cargo volume and over 60% of its container volume through the port systems of Ho Chi Minh City and Badi Touton.

The region has the largest group of seaports in the country——Dancang Jilai Port and Cai Mei Thi Vai Port Group. In addition, there are 6 public channels in operation in the region, including Saigon Taunton Channel, Taunton Thi Vai Channel, Song Dinh Channel, Soai Rap Channel and cargo channel, Dong Tranh Go Gia Seaport, and Đồng Nai province Province navigation channel. Air transport system Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Longcheng Airport are also under construction. The 86 industrial zones in southeastern Vietnam provide a rich source of goods for this logistics system.

The Import and Export Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam stated that over the years, the logistics industry in Vietnam has made gratifying progress, and the enterprises engaged in logistics services and their quality are increasingly improving,In 2022, the import and export volume of Vietnamese goods reached 732.5 billion US dollars, an increase of 9.5% compared to 2021, reaching an all-time high. This is inseparable from the comprehensive development of the Vietnamese logistics industry.

However, after evaluation by authoritative experts in the industry, it was found that although Vietnam's logistics system has great potential for development, there are still many aspects that need to be improved, mainly in the construction of infrastructure.

Experts from Ho Chi Minh City Jiaotong University said that most roads in Vietnam are small, narrow and have limited load bearing capacity. The road infrastructure cannot meet the needs of the logistics system, and the transportation system lacks railways-The connection between highways and inland waterways cannot form an efficient logistics transfer. So far, the region still lacks a national railway connecting the Pingyang and Tongnai industrial centers with the Cai Mei Shi Wei deepwater port group. Due to technical reasons, the modernization of the existing railway and other basic transportation systems still lags behind the plan, which is not enough to overcome the flood.

Secondly, there are also shortcomings in the logistics service system. Taking Gaimei Port as an example, as of now, Gaimei Port has not set up specialized inspection services, and relevant logistics approvals still need to be carried out in Ho Chi Minh City, which greatly affects the efficiency of transportation. In addition, Vietnam also lacks a comprehensive warehousing service network, as well as services such as cleaning, repairing, providing pallets, and on-demand packaging for cold storage and containers.

Finally, there is a lack of human resources. According to the evaluation of the Vietnam Institute of Logistics Research and Development, Southeast Vietnam accounts for nearly half of the total logistics human resources in the country47%, of which the majority of human resources are concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City, accounting for 78% of the entire district. But most of the staff engaged in the logistics industry have not received systematic training, mainly relying on experience and introductions.

Experts believe that compared to countries such as China, Thailand, Japan, and the European Union, Vietnam's logistics costs are still very high, and the efficiency of the association between import and export production enterprises and logistics enterprises is low. Many regions have not yet established large logistics centers that play a role in multimodal transportation of goods. Against the backdrop of rapid growth in e-commerce and domestic consumption in Vietnam, the logistics industry in Vietnam should develop infrastructure connectivity, promote public-private cooperation, increase the training of talents in related fields, and expand into a comprehensive logistics supply chain center with service capabilities such as circulation, processing, preservation, transportation, and distribution.
