Yunnan Minzu University, founded on August 1, 1951, formerly known as Yunnan University for Nationalities, is one of the earliest ethnic higher education institutions in the People's Republic of China. It was renamed Yunnan University for Nationalities in April 2003. It is a comprehensive provincial-level key university jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, and the Yunnan Provincial People's Government. It is a first-class discipline construction university in Yunnan, and has been selected as the "Excellent Legal Talent Education and Training Plan" of the Ministry of Education, the Bilingual Talent Training Base of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, and the recipient institution of Chinese Government Scholarship for international students in China. It is a doctoral degree awarding unit. The school has two campuses, Lianhua Campus and Yuhua Campus, covering an area of 2550 acres. The Southeast Asian College of Yunnan University for Nationalities (Laos Branch) is an overseas joint education project actively planned by Yunnan University for Nationalities and Qingqiao International Security Group. Both sides have shown positive willingness towards the upcoming cooperation. Through this discussion, we will further clarify the positioning and educational model of overseas branches. Lu Zhicheng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qingqiao International Security Group, pointed out that there are 24000 high school graduates in Laos every year, and only 12000 people are admitted to universities. In Laos and Southeast Asia, a large proportion of students fail the college entrance examination every year. In the current development direction of Yunnan University for Nationalities, vocational education is also a key focus, and the non academic education sector can be included in the overseas joint education system. Not only can we cultivate high-quality and highly educated talents for Southeast Asian countries, but we can also train skilled and practical talents. This is the strength of Yunnan University for Nationalities and also compensates for the shortcomings of Southeast Asian talents.
