The Nam Ou River cascade hydropower project is located in the provinces of Luang Prabang and Fengshali in northern Laos. It is the first overseas hydropower project planned and invested by a Chinese enterprise for the entire river basin, and also the first overseas investment project developed and constructed under the integrated development strategy of China Power Construction Corporation's entire industrial chain.As a key project of the "China Laos Economic Corridor", "Lancang Mekong Cooperation", and Laos' development strategy of building "Southeast Asian batteries", the project is planned and designed according to the "one warehouse and seven levels" plan, and will be developed in two phases. The total installed capacity is 1272MW, with an average power generation of 5 billion kilowatt hours and a total investment of approximately 2.8 billion US dollars. The franchise period is 29 years. The first phase of the project (level 2, 5, and 6 power plants) was fully put into operation and power generation in April 2016, and entered the commercial operation period on January 1, 2017; The second phase of the project (first, third, fourth, and seventh level power stations) began construction on April 8, 2016, and all power stations in the basin will be put into operation by the end of September 2021.
