Recently, the Malaysian government announced that it will officially initiate the process of applying to join the BRICS countries. This decision closely follows Thailand's formal application and further reflects the country's determination to strengthen international cooperation and promote economic development.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim revealed to the media after attending the Haji Festival celebration at the foot of Mount Tai in Penang that the Malaysian government has expressed its intention to join Brazil's President Lula, one of the BRICS countries, and will submit the application according to the established procedures. He stated that the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had already started studying how to apply to join the BRICS two months ago, and this decision was the result of careful consideration and thorough evaluation.

Since its establishment in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, the BRICS countries have developed into a widely influential and representative mechanism for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries. South Africa joined in 2011, and on January 1st of this year, the accession of Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia further enhanced the diversity and strength of the BRICS countries.

Malaysia's application to join will undoubtedly inject new vitality into the BRICS countries. As one of the important economies in Southeast Asia, Malaysia has significant advantages in trade, investment, and technological innovation. Joining the BRICS countries will help Malaysia further deepen its economic and trade cooperation with member countries, and promote mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.

At the same time, Thailand and Indonesia, which are adjacent to Malaysia, have also expressed their willingness to join the BRICS countries. Thailand has officially submitted its application for membership, while Indonesia is still studying the benefits of membership and considering whether to join. The positive attitude of these three Southeast Asian countries indicates that the cooperation mechanism of BRICS countries is receiving increasing attention and recognition in the region.

The Malaysian government stated that applying to join the BRICS countries will help promote the sustained development of the domestic economy and strengthen relationships with major trading partners. At the same time, this is also an important measure for Malaysia to actively participate in international affairs and promote the reform of the global governance system.

As an important trading partner of China in Southeast Asia, Malaysia's accession application will undoubtedly inject new vitality into the BRICS cooperation mechanism and promote regional economic prosperity and development. In the future, with more countries joining, BRICS countries will become an important force in promoting global economic growth and cooperation.
